Shutter-Speed Shutter-Speed is the easiest property for people to grasp, because it can have a dramatic visual impact on a photograph.

Inside a camera, there is a light-proof curtain that opens and closes, exposing the film or digital sensor to light.

Now, if a subject moves from the time the curtain opens, until the time it closes again, our subject will blur.

The Shutter-Speed can also be set so fast that it freezes our subject completely.

In these examples, the Shutter-Speed runs the range from 1/100 second to 0.4 seconds.

Notice how water, the only thing in motion, changes.
